During the three-day logistics DX inspection tour of Shenzhen, China from May 8th to 10th, we visited Meituan's Shenzhen headquarters.
What is Meituan?
Meituan is a Chinese listed company with sales of 4 trillion yen, and is funded by Tencent, which owns WeChat. In addition to food delivery, the company also operates the restaurant rating site "Dianping," similar to Tabelog.
Drone delivery vs. human food delivery
At Meituan, there are 300 people involved with drones at this Shenzhen base alone, and 700 people across China.
This service is popular for its speed, with delivery taking place within 15 minutes of ordering.
With a drone, you don't have to wait at traffic lights and you can head to your destination in a straight line.
Behind this photo is the locker where the drone lands and customers can pick up their ordered items by entering the last four digits of their mobile phone number.
One drone lands here. Since there is only one drone, it seems to get crowded during lunch time. However, some locations receive up to 300 orders a day, and the location we visited received 70 to 80 orders on weekdays and 30 orders on weekends.
Apparently ordering times fluctuate, with two-thirds of orders occurring during lunch time and one-third during cafe time.
I think the thing that everyone is concerned about is the cost.
It is said that drones are now taller than people, but just how much taller is a secret.
However, by the year 2000, we plan to make it the same cost as human delivery. Also, it will not be 100% drone delivery, and ◯% will be human delivery.
